Clife  MISSIONS UPDATE   October 2017

Our heart at CLife is simple: Bringing People to God & Bringing People Together! Although we are planted here in the New River Valley in Southwest Virginia, we serve a BIG God of a BIG world, and our desire to bring people to God and bring people together extends outside of just our immediate area! CLife is currently partnered with several different ministries locally and globally, and we want to keep YOU, our church family, updated so that you can pray and partner as well!

Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua

Pastor Earl and our friends at Verbo Church continue to be such a blessing to the people of Nicaragua! They have been partnering with a church in the nearby village of Betania, which was destroyed a number of years ago in a hurricane. They helped construct a new building for the church (as did some of you on previous CLife trips!) and they supplied an interim pastor who traveled back and forth from Puerto Cabezas. And now, Pastor Earl is excited they have found a permanent pastor, who will be installed in October!

In addition, we’re all looking forward to the next CLife trip to Nicaragua where we can continue to build relationships and work alongside our brothers and sisters in Port. Thirteen people are in the midst of fund raising and preparation to leave on December 27th.

So, please be in prayer for our trip and the preparations, and Pastor Earl asks for prayer for his wife Damaris who is undergoing some health challenges.

The Hunter Family

Here is the latest from Pastor Aaron:

"These last few months have been busy, yet productive. In June, I had the opportunity to train and equip 150 Foursquare children's teachers and leaders in Colombia. I also had the distinct honor of spending a week with “pastor's kids and youth” at the Colombian Foursquare annual convention. During this same time, I flew to Guayaquil, Ecuador to train and equip 100 teachers in a one-day intensive.

In July, we held our yearly International Forum for key Foursquare children's and youth leaders from Central and South America. The Forum took place in Lima, Peru and we had 35 leaders from Colombia, Peru, Chile, Panama, Ecuador, and Costa Rica who came together to be empowered, dream, and connect with one another.

All these events were very powerful and we have received great feedback from the participants. Truly God has extended his favor upon us in the region!

In the midst of these activities, we have spent the last few months on “furlough” in the US.  We have been able to minister in a different church every Sunday since late July (including CLife!!). We set out with a crazy financial goal to raise $30,000 in the three months, which will be used for getting us to Colombia and taking care of all of our one-time set up costs. We are glad to report that we are just a few thousand dollars away from the goal!!!!  When God is in something… there is always provision!

We plan on deployment Oct. 19, 2017, and will be setting up our new life in Medellin, Colombia.

Please pray:

We would reach the remaining part of our one time financial goal. Pray that the transition would be smooth and there would be no delays with the visa process. Pray for our children as they will be entering into the Colombian school system. Also, there are some pretty high ministry demands for 2018, so please pray for strength and resources to meet those demands!

Thank you once again for keeping us in your hearts and minds!

CRU @ NRCC & RU: The west family

The West Family (Chase, Kristan, Emery & Eva) have had an eventful, though believe it or not, restful summer!  The big news of course was the arrival of Eva Jane on July 5th. The Lord blessed Kristan and Eva with a full-term pregnancy and a complication-free delivery, The new arrival limited the number of things they could do, so compared to past summers this one gave them a chance to relax a little!

The primary focus of the summer was Summer Connect, a program for students who stay in the local community, and included a once a week Bible study and times for fellowship. The focus was people from Scripture who “lived on mission” in their everyday lives.

Their students also had a great summer! Bucky from NRCC ministered in Ocean City, MD., and Dustin was able to raise 100% of his support and is now ministering in North Africa, working with Muslim students on a college campus, while Chase continues to mentor him online.

The Fall Kickoff was a time of collecting interest surveys and outreach, with a key focus on reaching freshmen. One outreach involved giving away more than 300 pancakes to students out and about in town, which was a great touch point for meeting new people.

Both Chase and Kristan are leading small groups and continue to disciple students, and ask for prayer as they build relationships, especially to be able to reach more freshmen guys.

Serve September

Our first Serve September was a huge success thanks to all of you who took part!

Each Saturday in September we offered an opportunity for CLife to get out into the community and serve. We cleaned up the neighborhood around Riverlawn Elementary; we provided popcorn, hot dogs and hamburgers to hungry students at Radford University; our kids made “Jars of Love” to give to their teachers and to community servants; we had teams participating in service projects alongside lots of other churches with Go Pulaski County; we partnered with Habitat for Humanity, to help build a home for a family in need!

Best of all, we had opportunities to pray with and for our community, and bring the name of Jesus to those who may not know him!

Altogether we had more than 100 people donate 350+ hours of their time and effort! throughout the month of September! Thanks for loving the NRV!!

Riverlawn Backpack Program

Through the school district, Riverlawn Elementary School is able to offer discounted or free lunches to needy students. However, often these students will not have enough to eat on the weekend when school is out. The Riverlawn Backpack Program, tries to fill that gap.

Each Friday, members of the program come together and pack up food boxes that are then put into the needy students backpacks to take home. Every effort is made to provide for the students while protecting their dignity.

CLife is proud to once again be participating in the Riverlawn Backpack Program! We feel strongly that because Riverlawn is our home, it's important for us to sow into the efforts of those trying to serve the students, staff and faculty.

Each Friday, CLifers join up to help pack the food, about once a month some of our guys help unload the trucks and store the food, and once again we took a collection to help jump start the program for the new school year.  Thanks to your generosity we were able to donate more than $1,100 to the program!

Great job CLife and thanks to everyone who is involved in this great program!!

Iquique, chile

Pastor German in Iquique, Chile is excited about how the church continues to grow. They have intentionally gone deeper spiritually, so several people have been baptized in the Holy Spirit and they have seen a spiritual revival. They are also continuing to develop leaders, and they are ready to start developing home groups around the city of Iquique. Due to the political and economic instability in Venezuela, they have also had many people from that country coming to visit the church, and an opportunity to minister to those in need.

Please continue to pray for the growth of the church, both in numbers and spiritually. Also, pray as Pastor German and his family have taken the step of faith to move into the church building to help with the rent of the facility.

CLife Missions Update  May 2017

Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua

This past December/January, a team of 24 people from CLife travelled to Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua for eight days. They were able to come alongside Verbo Church in ministry, loving on the kids at the orphanage during the vulnerable holiday season, helping construct a much-needed security wall on the church/orphanage property, helping at the local feeding center, distributing food to 60+ families in the local village of Betania, reaching out to women by sharing about domestic violence and basic medical instruction, and much more! One of the most memorable parts of the trip for several team members was participating in a church service in Betania. On previous trips, many of our team members had helped construct the church building in this village, a village previously full of unreached people. Now, just a few years later, we were worshipping alongside new brothers and sisters in Christ who had joined the family of God through the ministry of this church. It doesn’t get better than that! In many ways, it’s hard to keep up with all the amazing things God is doing in Puerto Cabezas and the surrounding area through the ministry of Verbo Church…. they are truly a people who are empowered and walking out the vision of winning their nation to Christ! It is a joy to be involved in their work in small and big ways! Pastor Earl sends his love and wants everyone to know that all are welcome to come and be a part of what God is doing in Nicaragua! We may just have to take him up on that again sooner rather than later! More info to come soon!

Iquique, Chile

In March, Pastor Rod along with CLifer Luis Gonzalez, made a trip to Iquique, Chile to visit our friends at the church Embajada Cristiana. Last year, we sent a small team to Iquique to assist in outreaches in the city and help with some building construction in a new location for the church. Our friend Pastor Aaron Hunter was the founding pastor of the church, and as he is transitioning to a new role, Pastor German Paz is now the lead pastor. Pastor Rod and Luis traveled to Chile to encourage Pastor German in his transition and to continue to develop a relationship with the church and the leaders. During their time, Pastor Rod and Luis spent extended quality time with Pastor German, his family, and people from the church. They were able to minister at the Sunday service as well as hear the dreams, plans, and visions in Pastor German’s heart, and explore how we at CLife might be able to partner with them. Most importantly, they were able to bring love and encouragement to our dear brothers and sisters in Iquique! Continue to pray for Pastor German and his family in their new role! We are excited to see what doors God opens up in the coming months and what He is doing in Iquique, Chile.

Hunter Missionary Family

Lots of changes for the Hunter family! As you will recall, Pastor Aaron Hunter was the founding pastor of Embajada Cristiana, the church we have been connected with in Iquique, Chile (more on the latest trip to Iquique above!). After five years of fruitful ministry in Iquique, Pastor Aaron and his family left Chile in February to transition to their new role, empowering children and youth workers to engage and disciple the next generation in Central and South America. After a time of furlough and support-raising in the United States over the summer, the Hunters will be moving to Columbia. And, that's not the only change. They recently welcomed their third child (a gorgeous little girl) to their family! Although they are in transition at the moment, Pastor Aaron has already begun traveling throughout Central and South America (recent trips were to Belize and Ecuador) in his new role. And, we are excited he will be visiting our CLife family soon, when he comes to speak on Sunday, June 4th! Thank you for your continued prayers for the Hunter family!

CRU @ RU & NRCC: The West family

The West Family (Chase, Kristan and Emery), are excited to see their ministry progress as they continue work at RU & NRCC with the campus ministry CRU, seeing lots of growth and a growing maturity in their students. Kristan has been discipling four freshman women and has seen ongoing development in their walk with the Lord. Emily in particular has done a fantastic job in reaching out to her suitemates, and Amelia is now a regular part of the weekly meetings and women’s events because of Emily’s dedication. They will be living close together again next year, which will allow them both to continue to grow together in the Lord. Chase has been discipling four men, and he’s encouraged to see them looking for opportunities to serve over the summer. Dustin is going on STINT (Short-Term International Internship) to Sam’s Place on a college campus in the Middle East and Bucky is doing a summer mission project in New England where only 3% of the people are evangelical Christians. Four other students have also signed up for summer missions projects. So the West’s are encouraged as they send out the young men and women for the summer. They are also anxiously looking forward to meeting their new daughter Eva Jane, who will be born in July! So, please continue to pray for the students as they separate for the summer, the West’s ongoing support needs, and the health of Kristan and Eva Jane.

Love the nrv day

Saturday April 15th CLife declared Love the NRV Day, and 100+ people participated in nine different projects all over our valley. We had teams at Kiwanis Park in Christiansburg participating in the town Easter Egg Hunt, at the Huckleberry Trail, the New River Valley Mall, and at Bisset Park passing out popcorn, sno-cones, drinks, baked goodies, and balloons. We had two teams delivering goodies to our community servants including first responders, the libraries and the rec centers in CBurg and Radford, the Aquatic Center and to the Goodwill in CBurg and Fairlawn. We had a team washing buses for the Head Start program in Radford and another participating in the Crab Creek Cleanup in CBurg. We had a team deliver goodies to VDOT crews and another who shared Easter treats and fellowship at English Meadows senior living community. We baked and wrapped more than 70 dozen cookies, brownies and other yummy treats, passed out a hundred balloons, uncounted amounts of popcorn, drinks and sno-cones, picked up more than 400 pounds of trash and collectively spent close to 500 hours serving our community. But, most importantly we showed love and friendship to our neighbors in Jesus name. Every day is a day to love the NRV, but it was a special day when we as a church did it together!

Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua

Our vision in Nicaragua is to partner with Verbo Church in Puerto Cabezas to come alongside them as they are effectively reaching their corner of the world! Their ministry includes an orphanage that cares for 138 kids ages 2—18; evangelistic outreaches to nearby villages through offering medical clinics, children’s activities, and building construction; a feeding center that feeds 200 children daily; and church planting/equipping pastors along the Rio Coco, where 12 village churches have currently been planted! Most of the people in this area of Nicaragua are ethnically Miskito, a people group that is still consider ‘unreached’. Many need to hear the Gospel for the first time!

Community Life Church will be sending a team of 25 people to serve in Puerto Cabezas from December 26—January 3. Please put this on your calendar and commit to pray for this team leading up to and during this trip! We know God wants to use these guys to be a blessing to those who are tirelessly working in Nicaragua to achieve God’s vision of building the Kingdom there! Thank you in advance for your prayers!

Besides praying, if you would like to contribute towards this ministry, you can do so online at We are currently in need of financial donations to send along with the team for vital supplies: medications for medical clinics, rice/beans for food outreach to those living in the local dump, construction supplies for a security wall at the orphanage, and more!

Iquique, chile  & hunter missionary family

Many of you know that we had the privilege to send a team to Iquique, Chile this past March. It was a great time to be able to bless a relatively new church with some much-appreciated assistance! Embajada Cristiana (Christian Embassy) Church was planted approximately 4 years ago by Missionaries Aaron & Francis Hunter and their family. Aaron (originally from Washington State) and Francis (originally from Guatemala) moved to Iquique from their previous ministry assignment in Honduras. They planted Embajada Cristiana through evangelism and raising up and releasing disciples into leadership. Our team was able to help with a construction project on their new building back in March of this year, which has allowed them to have a more suitable facility for their church family to reach out!

In January 2017, the Hunter family will be transitioning to a new role within our Foursquare Denomination as NextGen missionaries to Central & South America to help equip churches specifically in the area of Children’s & Youth Ministry. As part of that transition, they will be moving to Colombia in the coming year (after the birth of their 3rd baby in April! yay!). We are excited to continue supporting them financially from CLife as they transition to this new role of reaching the next generation through Central/South America!

With this transition, we are also excited to commit to financially support Embajada Cristiana Church in Iquique for the coming year. Their current Associate Pastor, Pastor German Paz, will assume responsibility of being the Lead Pastor in January, and we are excited to partner with him during the next couple years of transition. Be on the look-out for more information coming soon about how you can partner to reach Chile! Pastor Rod will be traveling to Iquique in March to continue deepening our relationship there… if anyone would like to go with him, please let us know!! In the meantime, please be praying for the church in Iquique and their pastoral transition, as well as the Hunter family and their new missions role!

CRU at RU & NRCC:

One of the local ministries that we partner with is CRU, specifically supporting the ministry of Chase & Kristan West, part of our CLife Church Family and on staff with CRU. Here is an update from their ministry this semester:

“Ministry this semester has been full and wonderful! We kicked off the year with many outreaches both and Radford University (RU) and at New River Community College (NRCC) in order to engage with new students especially and try and get them connected to what we are doing! It was amazing to see God's faithfulness in bringing us the students He wanted us to invest in! We were able to meet a great group of new students who now have faithfully attended our NRCC small group Bible study at our home on Tuesday evenings! It has been wonderful to get to know each them, study God's Word together, be challenged in our faith together, and most of all, have fun together!

We have also made many new contacts at RU. Kristan has launched a freshman small group for women in the Governor's Quad, which includes four resident halls—Floyd, Peery, Trinkle, and Stuart—and has seen many of these women grow into a deeper relationship with Him! We also had our annual Fall Retreat weekend in October where about 125 students joined us at the Camp Powhatan Boy Scout Camp in order to escape the craziness of school and connect with each other and the Lord! Over the week 4 students accepted Christ as their Savior for the first time! Praise God for how good He is! We are looking forward to our upcoming Winter Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, in a few weeks as well where students from all over our region will gather to grow together in our faith! Please be praying for this time that God would use it in mighty ways!”
